But Just at 92, People Get Irritable

(Danny being creative with photography)
We're so many days into a heatwave (days over 90 degrees F.) that I've lost count. We're headed to 99 again today (with a heat index of a bout a million) and there isn't much relief in the week ahead. This
has led to some creative wardrobe decisions as I need to not only dress for the outdoor temperature, but the indoor as well. I find a lightweight cardigan indispensable in such situations.
Outfit Particulars:
1990's ultra-lightweight crepe dress-Some store in a mall I've forgotten
Cork-heeled sandals-K Mart
1970's Collins-style bucket bag-Goodwill
Bakelite bangles-several places
Hair flowers-Tiff and Tam
Vintage screw-back floral earrings-Can't remember
Fragrance-Evyan White Shoulders

With the heat, creative hairstyling has been a challenge. Although this photo shows a few stray hairs, the up-do did manage to stay up all day in 100+ degrees and high humidity. I first tied the upper section of my hair in an elastic, and then brought the bottom half together in another. I then tucked them into each other, and secured it all in place with the combs. My hair is unruly, and would never hold in combs alone. Sure, my head hurt by the end of the day, but my hair didn't budge!
Lightweight cotton dresses have also been helpful in the heat. I like this dress as it dries quickly on the line (I am sooo not running the tumble dryer in this heat). I could wear this dress day after day and always feel perfectly attired. I've dressed it up and down, and added colourful accessories as desired, never being disappointed with the results. Every wardrobe has a "Go-To" piece, and this is mine for summer.

Outfit Particulars:
Cotton dress-Thrift sale in a church
White patent slingbacks-K Mart
Vintage ostrich handbag-Goodwill
Vintage West-German beaded necklace-Han-Me-Ups
Vintage milk-glass clip earrings-Thrift World
Carved plastic (not celluloid, but a darn close copy) bangle-Hand-Me-Ups
1960's beaded dangle ring-Goodwill
Fragrance-Eau de Givenchy
I am *this* close to finishing the paperwork for school. I hope to have it sent off tomorrow morning, and I will hopefully be celebrating with a trip to an air-conditioned cinema. Danny wants to see the new X-Men movie, and I can get two hours of sleep in a cold room. Everybody wins!

Gosh, you do look sophisticated in your 'go to' dress. I love it - and the accessories. The first dress was rather nice too - and it looked cool. Love that bag

Cotton (and linen) is definitely my choice in a heat wave -should we be so lucky to have another one!

Enjoy your cold sleep!

You look positively gorgeous in your summer frocks, short and long, I love them both. How I long to be wearing summer clothes and Winter has really only started!! I have been known to sleep in the movie theater, good luck with getting some Zzzzz's.

You look cool as a cucumber despite the heat, Goody. Both dresses are lovely on you and your hair looks fab, I'm definitely going to give that style a try next time I'm somewhere hot but, as I look out at the torrential tain wrapped in a jumper I've nicked off the shop rails, it could be some time!
Danny did a cracking job on the photos. Hope your night out satisfied both of your wishes! xxx

Danny's getting all artsy on us in the photo dept recently. Very Stan Kubrick-ish with a hint of David Lynch in that reflection of the vast American plains in the store window echoed by the bland uniformity of the "big box" shop lighting all pointing at mom almost like a religious icon. The scarlet SUV in the ever present parking lots of the US yet another accent of Modern Americana.

Love that all purpose dress! Seriously considering shaving my head in this Monsoon heat. I've never had enough of my pashmina fine hair to even deign to think about wearing a jeweled hairpiece like that!

Happy father's day to Mr ETB!

I love both outfits you look cool and classy! I would be a sweaty, grumpy, melted mess in that heat!!

Wow! I would love to have legs like yours!! You look amazeballs in those dresses!

Pssst, the new XMen movie is closer to 3 hours if you include all the previews and whatnot!!!!

Happy upcoming last day of paperwork,

And happy thrifting!

Agreed, when the temps top 90s for days, the hair-do becomes a question of "cut it off" or "do it up"! Your double roll is an elegant solution to the challenge -- and so well balanced with the length of your goes-everywhere go-to cotton dress.

Cotton is king, but lightweight crepe is favored by the Church Basement Ladies in the torrid Midwest...in dark colors, with cap sleeves. Egad! Are some young matrons wearing V.I.N.T.A.G.E.?!

@Veronica
I just read a horrifying article in the Guardian about synthetic fibres getting into the ocean and fish (apparently microfleece sheds-who knew?)and I might well have to give up the synthetic fibres (or hand wash them gently). If I needed a good reason to wear cotton and linen, that is it.

@Sue
I must say, even though you hate winter, you do have the very best layering skills of anyone I know! You always look perfect.

@Vix
Have a wonderful time at Glasto. It sounds like such great fun. I'm keeping my fingers crossed you get good weather.

@Mim
Maybe I can get Danny to shoot a video. The hairdo is really simple.

@Bibi
I was about to say that's reading a bit into a photo...until I realised you might be onto something.

@Miss magpie
You might be the first person ever to call me classy...well, looks anyway ;)

@Thrifty Parka
I managed to convince Mr. ETB to take him! It was great, I got three hours of quiet at home.

@Beth
The last time I chopped my hair in a serious way I was platinum blonde and about 30 years old. I was going for the Kim Novak look and I got "Plucked chicken" instead! Not doing that again.

That second outfit is just gorgeous Goody. Having just returned from a cold and wet holiday, it's funny reading about the high temperatures you've been having. It seems summer is passing us by here. xxx
