2016 The Last

I'm having a small celebration tonight to kick 2016 the fuck out of here celebrate New Year's Eve, but those outfit posts will have to come later. Today, I have half of a vintage silk suit to talk about.

 Last winter, I purchased a late 80's/early 90's silk suit by Anne Crimins. I have another that I bought new for an obscene amount of money. Knowing what they retailed for at the time, I couldn't pass up the bright floral silk suit for less than a fiver. Only problem? The jacket is so asymmetrical it can only be worn closed. That wouldn't have been as issue in the 80's, but my menopausal self can't be buttoned up to the neck in a silk jacket. I've looked at the suit in my wardrobe all year trying to figure out a way to wear it where the jacket wouldn't look stupid flopped open at an angle. This morning, as I applied my palm to my forehead muttering something about a lack of brains, I decided to just go ahead and wear the skirt and matching scarf. Duh. It took the better part of twelve months to figure that out. Ah well, better late than never.
Outfit Particulars:
1980's/90's Anne Crimins silk skirt and scarf (part of suit)-New Life Thrift
Blouse-K Mart
Vintage faux seal jacket (it weighs a tonne)-Hand-Me-Ups
Vintage Velour hat-Thrift store in New Hampshire about 25 years ago
American Duchess shoes
Vintage needlepoint bag-Gift from an old neighbour
Necklace and earring set-mother's day gift from Danny when he was about seven
Fragrance-Chanel #22
Vintage brooch-Hand-Me-Ups
Tights-Walgreen's

This New Year's Eve, why not try a Baccio?

8 oz, gin
3 oz. anisette
8 oz. grapefruit juice
1 split champagne
Orange and lemon slices
Sugar syrup
16 oz. soda water

Combine gin, anisette, grapefruit juice, and champagne in a punch bowl over ice. Add sugar syrup to taste. Stir in fruit slices and soda water before serving.

Have fun, stay safe, and review the Recovery Position before heading to any parties tonight. See you in 2017!

We got your wonderful card in the mail this week! The girls and I were in Calgary over Christmas and just got home to check the mail yesterday. I'm afraid I'm a giant poor tool and didn't get a card out for you. I'm studenting at the local university now, I'm half-way through my 2nd year on the way to a BA honours in Religious studies - and this past term was brutal. I was frantically writing papers up to December 10th, and wrote my final final exam on the 22nd! It didn't leave much time at all for getting in to the Christmas spirit!

Give our love to Danny and Levin, while we don't communicate as much, you are all often on our minds!

Happy New Year to you! I am rather glad 2016 is over and have everything crossed that this year will be a good one. Mind you, the kind of year we get is up to us isn't it. NICE SHOES!!!

As soon as I saw the first photo I knew that was an 80s outfit. Gorgeous and what fab colours. The blouse is a genius match, too. Love the bag and shoes. As for the seal jacket - wow; heavy or not it' beautiful.

Danny had clearly got your style perfectly in mind when he bought you that gift aged 7!

I had a brainwave myself reading your post - I'm going to copy and paste all your cocktail recipes, put them into a file, print it out and give it to the (eldest) grandson so he can widen his repertoire of cocktails!

Happy New Year,

Happy New Year to you, Mr ETB and Danny. Here's hoping 2017 is better than 2016.

That is a fab skirt and scarf - is the jacket in exactly the same print? The fabric flows beautifully.

Hope the end of the year piss up was a rip-roaring success.
Loving the colours of that silk two piece, it looks like it cost a bomb back in the day.
Happy 2017! xxx

Happy New Year!!!!!!!
I don't recall Ann Crimins but the print & colors look familiar. Love those AD shoes. Not sure what you Western folk are all kvetching about 2016. We had 2 huge earthquakes here in 2015, 2016 couldn't possibly be worse than that?!?

A "sealskin" coat, a tapestry bag, that hat and those shoes with the elegant "French" heel! ?! Methinks the silky separates are a very thin Veil, indeed. Are you certain the only spirits in the ETB household are securely contained in bottles? Does one hear the rustle of tissue paper in the hat boxes, the whiff of mothballs in the closets? Are The Aunts nearby, whispering that those colored tights should be black lisle?

P.S. Danny had an eye for design, even at 7.

@Jenn
I am so happy to hear you're doing a degree-that's wonderful. That is cutting it close between end of term and holiday break. Hopefully, you'll get a bit of a rest in the new year.
I hope when you think of us, it isn't accompanied by a slow shake of your head and muttering about, "What are those Americans thinking?!"

@Sue
To a degree, it is though I don't remember asking for what we got in 2016!

@Veronica
That's a cool idea! I can't vouch for how the drinks might turn out though, given they're vintage cocktails. It must have been far less expensive to stock a bar in the 60's.

@Mim
The jacket is the same print, and has massive rhinestone buttons. I'll get a photo up-it is really hideous.

@Vix
I learned I should avoid Prosecco, so it was educational! Happy New Year to you as well.

@Bibi
True, earthquakes suck. We had an orange hurricane.

@Beth
There was an independent shop that sold incredibly glitzy costume jewelry and strangely enough, Samurai swords (why not?). Mr. ETB helped him pick it out for me, but judging from how nice the set is, I think Danny made the decision. Left to Mr. ETB I would have got a sword!

Happy new year to you, Mr. ETB and Danny! The colours of your "half suit" are fab! I hear you on the assymetrical jacket but I think you combined the skirt and scarf really well with that blouse. Love the tapistry bag and the necklace/earrings combo too! xxx

That blouse is wonderful with your half suit, the colours and prints work so well together. Far superior to the original outfit, I'm sure.

@Ann
I'm wondering what to do with the jacket now. Maybe a pair of big, wide 80's palazzo pants to balance the short asymmetrical jacket? I feel like I only solved half the problem :)

@Rasdostin
The original suit would be a bit much for me, being short. Someone taller might be able to pull off that much floral.
