Spiked Heels/Heels With Spikes

I wasn't going to buy these shoes. I was at Hand-Me-Ups with Danny when he noticed I kept picking them up, then putting them back. No longer able to stand my indecisiveness he grabbed them saying, "If you don't buy them, I will." I told him he's a bad influence on me, and he laughed in agreement. I've spent $5.99 on worse things.
This silver vintage bag cost $5.99 as well. I didn't require any persuading to make that purchase. It isn't any more practical than the shoes, but somehow it feels less extravagant. I love how it is flat like a briefcase while clearly not being a briefcase...unless you're some sort of  attorney with a wild sense of style.  It occurs to me that, Disco Solicitor would be one hell of a band name. Anyhoo, I couldn't leave it any more than Danny could let me leave the shoes.
 This dress has been worn on-blog before, but the jacket is a recent purchase. I removed the massive shoulder pads, and wore it slightly back from my shoulders to distract from how large it is. I don't remember waterfall style jackets being popular in the 80's, but this piece obviously proves my memory wrong. Peter Popovitch is becoming a sought-after vintage designer (God only knows why, the stuff is generally hideous) but this jacket spoke to me. Mostly it muttered, "What the hell?"
I have a few other Popovitch pieces and they are just as awful. At some point this summer I'll wear the nautical walking shorts with sailing flags and rope print. It is as awful as it sounds. But hey, Fashion!

We had some wild storms blow through Omaha last evening. 100+ mph winds that downed power lines and tore roofs off houses along with more water than we've seen in some time.
 Hmm, that looks bad...

 ...but there was a rainbow at the end when it was over. Our neighbourhood was spared power outages and significant damage but other parts of the city weren't so lucky. The College World Series (baseball) is taking place this week in Omaha and we have visitors coming from across the country and the world. I can't imagine what they were thinking last night, but at least the series organisers had the sense to cancel the opening ceremonies once it was clear the storms were coming. A baseball park isn't the place to be in 100 mph winds. Anyway, I won't need to water the garden for some time.
 I'll leave you with some photos before a storm we had earlier in the week.
Stay dry, and have a great weekend.

We're dry and baking here!

I didn't even notice you were wearing a jacket until you mentioned it! I absolutely love the dress - the pattern and the style is fabulous.

Those shoes are just the thing with the dress and jacket and the bag is spot on - I wonder if they were donated by the same person?

Danny clearly has inherited the all important 'eye' needed whilst charity shopping...

Hope there are no more storms heading your way!

Yowza! Those shoes are AMAZING! I love your choice of nail polish with those shoes. I bet the nail polish 'spoke' to you too.

Hmm, I think Omaha should be renamed the 'windy city'. 100 mph winds and thrown baseballs are not the best combination....but that jacket, the dress, the Disco Solictor briefcase and the shoes are!!!

I'm glad you took Danny with you shopping. He clearly knows when The D. Solicitor (best occupation ever!) needs something.

Happy thrifting ;)

Waterfall jackets were indeed fashionable in the late 80's. Especially in the plus size dept.
Bravo to the 80's for spectacularly obnoxious prints! Those shoes are badass. And of course I love that metallic purse.
Balahe? Nothing like a blast of aldehydes after a violent Spring storm!

I'd call that silver purse a "portfolio" and use it to transport my Very Important Papers (because my faithful black leather briefcase caught a terminal case of closet mold and was binned).

Those shoes! are so much more suitable for that ensemble than the boring black patent open-toed pumps one would anticipate, Goody. They also demonstrate the wisdom of my female elders' edict: "Thou shalt not wear snazzy sandals sans pedi!" Yowza!

Those shoes are quite something! I can walk in heels, but doubt I'd get very far in these!

I think you need to start that band, just so the name can be used! I'm picturing a sort of Robert Palmer set up, with the band dressed as secretaries in big spectacles behind the front person, who is of course, Disco Solicitor.

I love those weather pictures! Such dramatic skies! It's a bit of a contrast here in Blighty, it's already 80 Fahrenheit in our living room and is only 9am.

That dress is fabulous and doubly so with the jacket, so dramatic.
I love the Disco Solicitor bag.
Peep toes and bastard massive heels? Fabulous but lethal! Danny's got a great eye. xxx

Those are killer shoes! Danny was right to make you get them.

Maybe people are falling for Popvitch because his stuff can be awful - perhaps they like it in a kitschy way. I'm never entirely sure if I now love crimplene precisely because I always used to recoil at it so much...

@Veronica
I hope you cool down-this sort of heat can be deadly in places where air conditioning isn't the norm.

@Thrifty Parka
I have a confession-I was pressed for time so I just slapped a darker nail varnish over the one I was wearing. It will probably have 10+ layers by the time summer is over. *hangs head*

@Bibi
That's interesting-I don't remember them or anyone I knew wearing them-it seems like the sort of thing my nana would have liked.
Balahe is glorious. I would bathe in it if I could. Winter, summer, there's no limit to my love for that fragrance. I've been stockpiling vintage bottles, as you do.

@Beth
When we were moving I found my old briefcase from the 80's in pretty much the condition you've described. Danny was fascinated by the fact I once held a job that required me to carry important papers. Yeah kid, yer ma had a life you never imagined.

@Melanie
The thing to look for in heels is a bit of a platform under the toe-it makes towering heels easier to walk in. I never have difficulty wearing heels, but when I switch to running shoes after it can be tough on my knees for the first few miles.

@Vix
Thank you. I think Danny would make one hell of a personal shopper.

@Mim
That might be it. I have to say though. the Popovitch clothes are *really* bad-not in the, "So bad it is good" way. Just bad!

I do love the drama of this outfit. What is the print on the jacket? Stylized florals? Skeletons? It looks slightly Aubrey Beardsley-esque from the little I can see, and I love Aubrey Beardsley.

I also love the sky photos.

@Radostin
I think it is a floral line-drawing.

I love Danny's reaction. He really IS a bad influence ;-) I'm amazed you are able to walk in these shoes, though. xxx
