Another Casual Weekend

How was your weekend?
We spotted some baby swallows outside the art supply store. That was fun. I could sit there all day watching them. Every once in a while an adult swallow would swoop in, feed them, and take off again in search of more insects.

 We made our way to the library on Fort Street. This isn't my local branch, but it is open on Sunday, and they always have amusing book displays. Today, they had a copy of the Malleus Maleficarum on a shelf next to a self-help book by someone that writes for Pop Sugar. I mean, the Malleus is sort of a self-help book if you're a witch hunter, I guess. Anyway, I love that our library has er...something for every taste.
We've had downpours all weekend, but the skies cleared just long enough to take a few snaps while we were out. I always feel better when it rains in the run-up to Independence Day. Fireworks are legal in Nebraska and there's always someone that will set them off  even if conditions are dry and windy. At least with a good soaking as we've had the past few days there won't be much grassland fire danger.

Well, Monday's nearly done. Tomorrow's a holiday, so that obviously breaks things up a bit. I think I'll get a jump start on things by going to sleep now before every idiot in the neighbourhood starts shooting off fireworks at all odd hours. Happy Fourth if you're in the US, and a happier 4th if you're in the UK as you can celebrate being rid of us! To my neighbours in Canada, a (belated) very happy 150th birthday-you don't look a day over 149.

Happy Fourth of July to you!

Perhaps there's a witch problem in your area that you didn't know about...

Happy 4th July, Goody!
I love that first photo, those fabulous blue specs of your Mum's along with a hyper excited Danny boy.
Libraries open on a Sunday? I've never heard of such a thing. I love the sound of the arrangements, librarians are the oddest people I know.
The print on your red skirt is ace and I love the colours and not-quite-matching handbag (works for me!) xxx

Happy 4th of July!
Looking elegantly summery in black, red & gold as well as corals, pinks, & briiliant apple green!
The Monsoon started this weekend with yet another hellatious T-storm which wiped out my wi-fi antenna, the wi-fi tower for our valley, and triggered numerous landslides so no one could fix either! I thought of you & your lightning strike experience at the farmhouse when I was standing in the kicthen & the lights flickered, there was a loud BZZT, and POP the fluorescent bulb in the light fixture exploded followed by the stench of ozone.

I cannot believe how much Talbots and Ann Taylor merchandise -- most of it apparently unworn, and some with original hangtags -- I have found at the Goodwill in downtown Oakland.

We are celebrating because our next-door neighbors moved out, so this year we won't have to stand guard with a garden hose while a huge cache of illegal fireworks is detonated next to our cedar-shingled house. The cats will also be much happier.

Aw! That was so sweet of you to wish us a Happy 150 (hee! Don't look a day over 149).

Love that first picture of your baby swallow in the back seat. Looks like he's getting impatient for his insect!

Happy thrifting ;)

@Mim
All our witches in Omaha are good witches. I promise!

@Vix
Some branches close on Monday instead, but others are 7 day a week locations. The mayor keeps trying to shut the libraries, and people resist. I don't know how much longer that will be the case, but we figure the more we use the places, the better chance they have.

@Bibi
Oh man, that's something I wouldn't wish on anyone-I'm glad everyone is OK. Cleaning up the bulb must have been one hell of a chore as well. I know they teach kids, "When thunder roars, go indoors" but maybe they need to amend it to, "And don't stand near hanging fixtures!" I'm so glad you weren't hurt.

@Propagatrix
People buy stuff in the sales they wouldn't typically wear, and then don't. The quality at Ann Taylor is disappointing- not what it used to be.
Hope you get better neighbours. We have new ones coming in next door and across the street.

@Thrifty Parka
He's a picky swallow too, won't eat the usual insect fare and insists on the exotic stuff!

Oh, how I love that first photo of you and Danny. Those specs are awesome! Aren't baby birds adorable? Although we don't often see swallow nests here, we come across them when visiting the UK a lot. They seem to like castle ruins! I love both skirts, and both bags too. The almost matching one is adorable. xxx

Ooh, two great skirts! I love all your heavy duty accessorising with the first, and the Lilly Pulitzer colour scheme you have going on with the second. And you already know I'm with the party in favour of near matches; I think you're switching over to the dark side and just haven't yet consciously acknowledged the fact.

@Ann
It is so nice to have you back from Wales-I missed you!
I can imagine a castle being a great place for a cliff swallow. We get mostly barn swallows here.

@Radostin
You may be right. I hear the Dark Side has better accessories!

Fabulous first photo!

I love swallows and always feel happy when I see that they, the swifts and the house martins have arrived back in the UK, it's quite emotional knowing how far they flew to get back home.
