Sleeveless Adventures

The calendar might say spring, but summer arrived a few weeks ago and what a summer it has been. When I did a large cull of my wardrobe I forgot how hot summer gets in Nebraska. I don't think this polyester top will be seeing any wear again until at least October. I must say, of all the places I've lived, Nebraska has the most extreme weather from heat to cold. That said, I can't think of a single place I'd rather be. We have it good here so shhhh, don't tell anyone-I don't want them to ruin it! But the weather? Yeah, it can get kind of rough.

Talbot's skirt-Goodwill
Vintage top-Goodwill
Straw bag-World Market
Vintage brooch-a thrift shop in Illinois
Vintage bracelet-Hand-Me-Ups
Enamel clamper bracelet-Target, about 15 years ago
Fragrance-Vintage formulation Vent Vert (obviously)

When the heat really kicks in, I stop worrying about looking like my mum and just embrace the sleeveless blouse. She always liked them because having a proper collar made her feel, "Dressed" unlike a jersey knit, etc. I'm not sure I agree with the logic, particularly when worn with shorts, but I am happy enough to forgo sleeves. Anyone that doesn't like my arms needn't look, but my days of suffering and covering up are done.

Outfit Particulars:
Linen shorts and blouse both K Mart
Straw basket used as purse-New Life Thrift
Shoes-K Mart
Fragrance-YSL Paris
Continuing with a sleeveless theme, I dug this jumpsuit out of the cupboard. It is knit, but didn't seem too warm given to the wide legs.
Outfit Particulars:
Jump Suit-K Mart
Vintage tote bag-Goodwill
Necklace-Can't remember
Bracelets-all thrifted Goodwill
Vintage earrings-New Life Thrift
Fragrance-By Kilian Pure Oud (which despite the name, isn't and yes it was an obnoxious choice in hot humid weather)
Continuing to keep those middle-aged arms flyin' free in a brocade top I bought for a buck.
With bonus midriff action because I do not care. Also-what's the point having a tattoo if no one sees it? I had that done in the early 80's (before it was cool)😁and if you're wondering how my mother reacted, it was pretty much as you'd expect! My dad thought it was hilarious.
For the record, the only thing I regret about it was not getting something bigger.
We've been getting in plenty of putt-putt golf this summer. I live 5 minutes from the place, so I really don't have an excuse not to.
 I haven't completely abandoned pattern mixing in the hot weather, though I did remove the jacket by mid-day.

Outfit Particulars:
Silk jacket-Goodwill
Skirt-Goodwill
Blouse-K Mart
Bag-Hand-Me-Ups
Hobe brooch-Goodwill
Bakelite bangles-Hand Me Ups and Goodwill
Belt-New Life Thrift
Shoes-Goodwill
Fragrance-Elizabeth Taylor Violet Eyes
The lilies in the photo have already blown apart in a storm but were beautiful while they lasted.
 Outfit Particulars:

Belt-Gordman's
Necklace-Goodwill
Earrings-Goodwill
Brooch-Hand-Me-Ups
Vintage shoes-Yard sale
Handbag-Goodwill
Fragrance-Cabotine Rose

I'll leave you with this outfit that looked better in person.

Vintage skirt-Hand-Me-Ups
Top-K Mart
Vintage Egyptian beads-thrift shop in Illinois
Vintage slides-Hand-Me-Ups
Enid Collins bag-Antique mall
Bangles-all over
Hoop earrings-Can't remember
Fragrance-Avon Casbah (Review coming soon. Thanks, Emily!)

I have such a glut of photos to get through I might just do a few strictly outfit posts. We are still slogging through the syllabus but will hopefully be done tonight or tomorrow-then I can shift my brain into summer relaxation mode. I hope your summer mode is relaxing😀

Dang, you find the best stuff at Kmart! Then again, I recall taking my mom on shopping trips to Kmart when she was in the nursing home (late 90's?). It was less crowded than Walmart (actually empty) and had wide walkways for the wheelchair. We'd always find her a rhinestone studded pantsuit, a fabulous floral maxi, a fancy hat or something every week.
Those lilies look glorious!

Just wanted to say, you look so pretty!! They curly hair and big specs are really working for you :)

I think the Egyptian beads may be Peruvian.

Love everything you are wearing....good luck with YOUR LAST SYLLABUS :) !!!!

Happy thrifting ;)

I'm so glad you're having summer weather and going bare armed. I do it rarely; it has to be really, really hot for me to let my bingo wings free...

Such lovely outfits. I just loved you in the silk skirt and matching jacket with the white blouse. Loved the jumpsuit with that fabulous tote and amazing necklace and all your accessories. The white vintage shoes are so on trend - saw a similar pair (not white) in Clark's sale today for £65.00...

Your garden is blooming!

Free the tat! (On my 80th birthday, I will get my first tattoo. It will be a flaming skull with bat wings, and I’m getting it on my neck.)

You look fantastic. Gotta get the air on the arms in hot weather. (I'm with your mum on the collar thing, they do always feel smarter to me, probably 'cos they say, "Look this bloody thing needs ironing!"... I promise that's the only time I'll think like her.)

Loving the bare arms fashion - I'm sad that so many women are reluctant to show their arms - I never look at body parts, just fab outfits!
Loving the unknown necklace with the jumpsuit, the emerald green number, the poodle brooch and that ace basket. I've got lazy with taking daily photos but it's good for my inner slob, I get to wear the same outfit a couple of days on the run! xxx

"Days of suffering and covering...are done": the mantra for any sensible woman over 21 in 100+ heat. And not to quibble, but I'll match Indiana for extreme weather fluctuations any year you choose.:)

Your pattern combination skill is in full bloom, Goody! The open metal petal necklace perfectly reflects the Tiki tote (please add it to the items you're leaving me in your will); the patterns in the jacket and skirt ensemble melt together like caramel on vanilla ice cream; and the game played with textures -- shoes, bag, beads -- in the Cabotine Rose ensemble is a winner!

Are those golden metallic slides to honor the Egyptian necklace and its so suitable skirt? Thanks for reminding me to get a pedi before I wear mine!

@Bibi
K Mart is in the death throes. Our Omaha stores are all closed and I have no idea how long the one in Council Bluffs will last. They do however still have an online store. I rarely buy new, but when I do K Mart was always my first choice because the clothes werew better made than other fast-fashion places.

@Thrifty Parka
You may be right about the beads-I'll have to look into it.

@Beate
My trick to getting photos is having my son take them. I can send him to you ;)

@Veronica
I noticed the vented shoes are having a m oment which makes me laugh because I wouldn't wear them as a young person as they were, "Too granny." How times change.

@Propagatrix
On my 80th I'm getting DNR on my chest!

@Mim
She had her moments of likability though it usually involved lots of gin!

@Vix
I never look at bodies either-makes you wonder what sort of people do? Maybe men, but who gives a shit what they think ;)

@Beth
I remember summer visits to Indiana and you're right about extreme weather, and that was only as far as the dunes. Aren't slides the best? I'm going to miss summer when I have to cram my foot back into proper shoes.

I've been away, so my comment is only two weeks late! Glad to hear that Summer has arrived in Nebraska. It seems to be here to stay in Belgium as well. We even had a minor heatwave in the UK! Love your first outfit (green) and the pink and white one at the end. Also love the straw basket used as a purse! xxx
