2020

Okay, so the much longer post that was only half finished posted and then... whoosh, is gone? Kinda like my 2019 so perhaps that’s appropriate. Really, I haven’t much to say that’s worth worrying over it being lost but that’s an hour of my time I could have spent doing laundry.

Eh, whatever. I wore a sparkly skirt for the last day of 2019.

I did the year of colour thing on my Instagram posts. I wear much more beige than I realised unless it is picking up my hallway. That doesn’t really explain all the other brown unless my hair counts? I did sneak in a bit more red this year. It feels like all I’ve been wearing is black of late.

The holidays were subdued this year with illnesses, family crisis, and a car that’s been in and out of the shop for the better part of the last two months. We are a one car family so as you can imagine this is a colossal pain in the ass. I dunno, call me crazy but a five year old car shouldn’t need a thousand dollars worth of repairs that aren’t covered by the warranty. I mean, 50,000 miles and it is falling apart?! Never again . I will NEVER buy another Ford. So yeah, 2019 was a bit shit.

Enough of that. Let’s spend some time admiring this 1970s men’s suit I bought for less than a tenner. It has a matching waistcoat as well. It is rare for me to find a men’s suit that’s short enough but this one was perfect. Thank you small statured man for donating your old suit to New Life Thrift. I promise to take as good care of it as you did. It still had the ancient dry cleaning tags and pocket square.

I look like my dad ( but taller- He was a tiny guy ) All I need is a cigarette hanging out the corner of my mouth to complete the look.

Except when I wear my hair off my face. Then I get told I look like RBG😁which is totally a compliment! Danny finds it hilarious. Really though, I’ve heard worse.

This was Christmas day when it was something like 60 degrees outside. We have been having a very mild winter in Omaha.

Definitely don’t want to venture out on the ice covered lake in these temperatures .

The belt and crazy buckle were my gift this year. Brace yourself-you’re in for something strange...

Yep. I love the football players and pioneers representing our state😆. I mean, that’s actually pretty accurate!

I bought Dan a tin of Quality Street that he didn’t have to share. They still skimped on the green and purple which are the only ones anyone really want. Ah well, at least he enjoyed them. It was about the only thing he could eat without being in pain. The day after new years is “Getting scoped up and down day” ( sorry tmi) so you probably know how he’s spending New Year’s Day . Poor kid- but at least we can get some answers. He’s really been through it this year. We are going to have a do-over holiday in February. Instead of Christmas we’ll celebrate the Iowa caucus. I mean, our goose is kinda cooked so...appropriate , right?!

The New Year craziness has already started and it isn’t ever close to midnight. The police are asking people not to shoot guns in the air to celebrate. To those who are outside America that might look like a typo but sadly it isn’t. They are also asking people not to bang pots and pans either. Damn, if you can’t randomly shoot guns or bang pots and pans might as well turn in early.🙄

I won’t be sorry to see the last of 2019. I hope 2020 brings everyone nothing but health and happiness!

Happy New Year to you and the clan!
You look fabulous in that suit and the belt buckle is ace.
The joys of a vintage VW is that you can usually sort them out with a lump hammer and a roll of gaffer tape (well, Jon can!)
Here's to a happier, healthier and fabulous 2020! xxx

Oops, a disappearing post! How annoying! It happened to me once and it certainly wasn't much fun. Love your Christmas tree, and it's a relief to see that you've got a nativity scene as well (we do too!). Sorry to hear about your car and that 2019 was a bit of a rough year. Poor Danny, but hurray for Quality Street. I've never understood why they bother about the other colours as everybody seems to prefer to green and purple ones anyway. I'm really glad the New Year craziness is over, although this year wasn't as bad as the others, as in most towns and villages any fireworks but the official ones weren't allowed and people were getting fined, which I think is a good thing. Have a fabulous, and healthy, 2020! xxx

I think the wheel of colour takes the dominant shade in a photo, which can be backgrounds, though the version I used did have tweakable settings to limit earth tones/skin tones if you like. My terracotta bathroom wall definitely showed up in a few of my blobs.

Ooof, that's an awful car bill. Ours is a Ford, a Focus, but I don't know if you have those in the US. We've had nowhere near as much trouble with it.

Poor Danny! I hope he doesn't suffer too much tomorrow.

You really do rock that trouser suit!

Brrrrr...it has been unusually cold here in South Asia! We haven't had a frost here yet but it is hovering around 39-40F/3-4C. Miserably arid too, slathering myself head to toe with the most intensive moisturizers I can find!
My favorites in the Quality Street tin are the dark red malty toffee ones.
Loving your psychedelic sequin jacket & the mens' 70s suit.
Hope Danny did well in his scoping adventure. I've had the same procedures. The worst part was afterwards. All that gas they put in MUST come out. And it does - quite loudly and painfully I might add!
Wishing you & yours, a healthy, happy, and prosperous new year!

Happy New Year to you and yours, Goody.

Fabulous outfits especially the man's suit - what a find! And the fab circle dress and sequinned jacket; both gorgeous.

I do hope Danny's health issues are resolved and that your car gets sorted one way or another. I hope Danny enjoyed his Quality Street; my favourites are the blue (coconut) and pink (fudge) ones so we'd get along fine, I think!

Happy New Year!

That suit looks incredible on you! I never would've guessed it's menswear. You make it look perfectly ladylike.

I've never heard of Quality Street candy until now, but after reading up on it on Google, I was amused to learn of all the strong opinions people have of the different flavors. The Telegraph even ranked them from worst to best:

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/christmas/2018/12/26/votes-12-quality-street-chocolates-ranked-worst-best/

We are a one-car household too. Our current chariot is a 2008 PT Cruiser. Occasionally, it has an expensive repair, but so far, so good. We'll hang on to it for as long as it's feasible. Now that we're at the start of a new decade that I totally plan to call The Roaring Twenties, I hope we all experience automotive ease and good luck on the road. : )

I hope Danny feels better soon.

2019 was a really sad year for us, too. I hope that 2020 is a better year for us all and that the new decade treats everyone more kindly, but then I read the news and it is so hard to feel hopeful again. Good luck with cars and hospital visits and patience. My thoughts are with you in this tough time.

@Vix
Thank you. I are giving serious consideration to a VW next time.

@Ann
I'm really hoping the rest of the winter will be quiet as the first part was so manic. Here's hoping 2020 is great for you.

@Miss Magpie
Thank you! Same to you.

@Cee
;)

@Mim
Ours is a Focus. I think they put it together backwards! We have it back now so hopefully this will be it. Danny did great, now we're just waiting for the report.

@Bibi
I don't know what's worse, hovering near freezing, or freezing? Anyway, I hope it lets up soon and you at least get some moisture in the air.

Danny did fine, and yeah, the gas was most exciting ;)

@Veronica
There are 4 pieces of candy left-all orange creams ;) I guess he just can't stomach them. He's always hated orange of any type.

The test went well, and we're just waiting on the report. The car is back and fingers crossed...this might be it? have A VERY HAPPY new year!

@Beate
Thank you. Happy New Year to you as well. We are slowly figuring things out. Little by little.

@Emily
Last year I only bought a small package of Quality Streets and I heard about it! This year I made certain to buy the tin early.

Everyone is talking about the roaring twenties but no one wants to do the 1620s and dress like a Pilgrim. I'm totally bringing Pilgrim buckles back this year ;)
Happy New Year.

@Mrs. Rat
Thank you. I understand what a difficult time you're going through. Gia was a lovely, lovely pup who had the luck of living with humans that adored her and gave her such a beautiful life. I hope your 2020 is filled with happiness.

Now that you mention it, you DO resemble RBG in that last pix -- RBG at age 24 or thereabouts. (I admire the lady's style, especially those lace collars. A sweet little old lady, she ain't.)

Might one suggest the menswear ensemble for the confrontation with the Ford dealer? And the psychedelic mini for your first gallery opening of 2020? Methinks 2020 is going to roll like that: Beating down the challenges and celebrating occasions for joyful living. The belt buckle sorta symbolizes it.
