Painted Bread

When I saw the beautiful breads at Chef Tess Bakeresse, I knew I wanted to try the technique. I have a (very) old cookbook that deals with a similar technique, but employs the use of food colouring and stencils. I liked this better.

Not bad for a first attempt. I can see using this quite a bit through the holidays. Gifts of homebaked bread anyone?

OK, go on and get out of here and look at Tess' creations.

This reminds me of bread that I saw in the bakeries in Germany. Very nice!

Thanks Susan and Lulu. I could see this taking interesting turns on slashed bread as you paint the design on nearly fully baked bread-perhaps the scoring would suggest patterns, etc. I'm not terribly skilled with a paintbrush, but this technique is so interesting it might be worth learning. I should bake a couple dozen rolls and work on miniatures.
