Today's people that make me want to crawl back into bed and wait to die, come to you from the Baby Boomer generation that don't want to be called grandparents. Yeah, go ahead and slap your forehead...I'll wait. OK the link is HERE, but the quote that got me was:
"Names like Grandma and Grandpa "sound fusty and old," contends Wellford, who's "Mimi" to her grandson. "The image you get is of someone in an apron baking cookies, with grey hair. None of my friends have aprons or grey hair that shows."
That's funny, because I'm wearing an apron, baking cookies and have grey hair that shows-I'm also old enough to be a grandmother. Most people think I'm Danny's grandmother anyway. Guess I'm, "fusty and old."
(insert eyeball rolling________).
For the record. my in-laws are called "Granny, and Grandad."
Did these people not like their grandparents? I miss mine! "Grandma" & "Grandpa" are honors.
ReplyDeleteExactly. I just don't get this fear of being old-like there's some sort of shame in it.
