The poodle has gone to that place where you can have all the table scraps you want, and your humans are never vegetarians. It has been a very difficult week without him, and I suppose it will take some time getting used to his absence. Algy was about 18 years old (he was an adult dog when we adopted him, 16 years ago) which is a good, long life for a dog that was rescued from a beach in Puerto Rico, and flown to an animal shelter in Massachusetts. I couldn't have asked for a better companion all these years, and he will be greatly missed. It feels so strange to be in the kitchen without someone dancing around and stomping his foot to let me know he'd like a taste of whatever I'm fixing.
For the first time in 16 years, I've had to come home without anyone running to the door to greet me.
So sorry to hear about your loss. He sounds like he was a wonderful companion, and will be sorely missed! Wishing you strength and peace as you cope with your loss.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry for your loss. There is nothing that can replace that unique bond we have with our animal family, is there? I enjoy reading your posts often and I don't mean to just suddenly appear like this, but I did want to say I'm sorry, and also to wish you strength and peace as you heal.
ReplyDeleteYou must have been a caring pet owner to have 16 good years with your doggy. Take care.
ReplyDeleteThanks all for the kind words and thoughts.
ReplyDeleteIn late 1986, after having been busy many months with school and other things, called to reconnect with a friend - an aspiring singer whom I photographed quite a lot. Because no one answered his home phone, I called his workplace. A co-worked asked, "Are you a friend of his?" Yes. And so she told me he died. (The first person I ever knew to die of AIDS.)
ReplyDeleteThe point being, when I get busy with things and fail to keep up with friends (and read their blogs), look what happens. I re-emerge some time later and learn about the passing of friends. (I gotsta' stay connected!).
Agggghh... Algy. You'll be missed, little fella.
Part of the reason I never "Google" people from the past-I'm always afraid what I might find.
