Time to count the birds again. The event begins Friday, and runs through Monday. You can get all the details here:

Being able to enter your checklists online has really revolutionised the way the count is done. Danny does round-the-year Ebird checklists, but the GBBC is more of an "event." We'll be meeting up with other local birders, and if you would like to join in, drop me an email and I can point you to some of the locations.
Of local interest-There are a pair of eagles (again) building their nest at Lake Wanahoo in Wahoo.
We were able to get up there last year after the eagles had hatched, and hope to visit again. You need a park pass to visit Wanahoo.
We also like to do birding from the comfort of a chair indoors at the Aksarben Aquarium in Gretna. The feeders are placed in a a somewhat protected area so birds can get to them in bad weather. You do not need a park pass for Aksarben (and admission is free) but you need a pass for the rest of the State Park.
Fontenelle Forest charges admission, but they have tons of trails, indoor places to watch the feeders, and a habitat no bird can resist (seriously, if I were a bird, I'd go live there).
If you see us, stop over and say hello. Danny will be the one counting birds, and I'll either be dozing in a chair or reading a book (my regular posture at baseball games as well).
