Sometimes you go for 40's glamour, and end up with Ernestine.
I believe they mean, cat fanciers, not a fancy cat. Small but important difference.

Hair Rat-Sally's (I was getting compliments on this from youngsters, but honestly, I don't see myself doing this as a regular look)
Gee whiz, I need to get some fresh polish on those toenails.
Those stupid metallic what-nots catch on everything.
Detail from the shoulder. The pattern on the fabric is done with some sort of screened paint. It has seen better days, but at 70+ years you have to accept some flaws. I've had about 30 good years wearing it myself.
This jacket had the largest shoulder pads I've ever seen (and I lived through the 80's, so I've seen some big shoulder pads). I removed them, but saved them in the event I pass the jacket along to someone in search of authenticity. I can't believe we used to wear stuff like that.
"I'll get that file for you right away, after you kiss my ass. Both cheeks. There 'ya go."
Have a great week everyone.
love the filing cabinet picture and comment:) Shoulder pads are interesting aren't they? I really don't like the 80s but love the 40s. Lovely accessories and blouse:)
ReplyDeleteErnestine IS glamour. And so are YOU! Sock it to me.
ReplyDeletePriceless.
ReplyDeleteYou are very funny!! I survived the big hair, fluro lycra and the shoulder pads of the 80's once and have no desire to do it again.
ReplyDeleteIt's a conundrum though - why are the 1940s bold shoulders of a Joan Crawford-esque silhouette seen as elegant and stylish, but the shoulder pads of the 1980s so reviled? I have a bit of a liking for shoulder pads, they balance out my big bum. I've probably said that before, but I repeat myself. A lot.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, your Forties frock is beautiful, don't you just love it when clothes are made to last, and they do just that?
Both cheeks. I like that! xxx

ReplyDeleteI think it has to do with the shape of the pads-40's style were more triangular where the 80's had a more rounded look. Sort of the difference between looking like you have wings, or looking like a football (the American kind) player. I'm really short, so that sort of thing always looks absurd on me.
My defining 80's moment was when I saw my mother stuffing shoulder pads under her bra straps to wear with a dress that already had gigantic shoulder pads. More is better, no?
Your bum isn't big, BTW, and I've seen adorned in a bright yellow skirt ;)
