Should have used a piping bag and start tip instead of a ziplock. Ah well, next time.
It held together, thanks to the gelatin stabalised whipped cream.
It wasn't at all sweet, which was a nice change. I'll get the recipe up eventually, but if you can't wait, it is in the Rose Levy Beranbaum, Cake Bible. There's a million steps, and it is time consuming, but you only turn 54 once, so Happy Birthday Mr. ETB.
I now have a gallon of homemade kirsch and more of these super-boozy cherries. I see some vanilla ice cream in our future.
Thanks!! I have just gained weight looking at that!! YUM!!!
ReplyDeleteBahaha, looks a little like a snowman squeezed that icing out!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I feel like I popped on a few pounds just looking at the sumptuousness!
Boozy cherries!!!! MMMMMMMMMM

ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Mr ETB, another fabulous cake from your lovely wife !

ReplyDeleteNow I am compelled to bake a cake depicting a snowman crapping mounds of whipped cream! Once the thought is there, I won't rest until it is done.
Aaaah, I love black forest cake! Cherries and chocolate are a match made in heaven. I even made a trifle version one Christmas.
ReplyDeletePiping schmiping, as long as there's plenty of cream on top, who cares what it looks like?
@Everyone
ReplyDeleteI still have half the cake as it is so rich we cant eat but a small slice. I'm also stuck with a jar of booze-soaked cherries, which I'm sure I'll find *some* use for (like eating them straight from the jar).
This is far fancier, (and I'm sure far more tasty) than my last black forest creation. I add cherry pie filling to boxed brownies and them frost and slather in redi-whip. But hey, in a pinch they rock. I'll have to try something like this torte just to make sure my baking skills haven't turned rusty!

ReplyDeleteI know the brownie mix/pie filling cake and love it. There's a lot to be said for using mixes. I'm no cake snob ;)
And here I thought I was being original. ;)
