The warm weather finally arrived (I was starting to worry it might not) and now Nebraskans have something new to collectively complain about! My garden isn't complaining, and the beautiful (and fragrant) heliotrope by my front door is in celebration mode. I need to keep it watered regularly as it has a tendency to droop in the heat, but it absolutely adores humidity, something we won't be experiencing a shortage of over the next several days. My tomatoes are finally growing as well.
I don't always dress to match the flowers in the garden, but I do try to dress for the conditions. Most days, that means layering as the air conditioners are on full-blast most places. A few years ago, I gave-in and started wearing short-sleeved jackets. I always regarded them as, "Too granny", but now that I'm old enough to be a granny, I can appreciate how practical a short-sleeved jacket is.

I'm just waiting for that huge bucket of violas at my knee to start blooming. Between the Salvia, heliotrope, violas, and borage this corner of the yard should be a beautiful purple oasis . The gladiolas shot up their buds this morning, so hopefully we'll be enjoying those soon as well.
Can you spot my photographer in the door glass reflection?
I do love a dress that copes so well with an extra twenty pounds! You look stunning in the white outfit, and fab in the pastels.
ReplyDeleteHooray for hot weather. I flippin' love it.
ReplyDeleteYou look absolutely stunning in that white ensemble. I love a white dress but, yet again, whenever I want to wear one I remember that I still haven't got round to buying some nude knickers and they're all too see thru' to go commando, like I'd happily do.

Hmm, well I think your madras skirt & short sleeve jacket look quite smart. The white dress is devastatingly gorgeous as always.
ReplyDeleteGuerlain Imperiale is what Eau d'Hadrien wished it was (IMHO)
That heliotope is gorgeous! Enjoy it in all it's honeyed almond scented deliciousness!
Round of applause for little miss green fingers!! Your garden is doing really well. I too will look forward to the pot of Violas flowering. You look very gorge in that White frock and sandals, I am not really enjoying having to layer up. I keep telling me every day I am getting closer to Summer again. Danny the photographer!!
ReplyDeleteThat's the first time I've ever seen heliotrope and it's absolutely wonderful! Thank you, Goody. I love purple flowering plants. I have no idea what it smells like though, wish we had smell o vision...
ReplyDeleteYou look lovely and cool in your blue outfit; blue is such a cool colour. The short sleeves are both practical and chic. That bag is gorgeous,
You look amazing in your white dress - so glam! Well done you for being able to fit in to it after so long. I seriously doubt I could ever fit into any of my clothes from so far back.
Glad to see you've got the kid earning his pocket money....
Have a lovely weekend.

Oh yes, I can see Danny! I love a short-sleeved jacket and don't care if it's granny or not. I have been a step-granny for years, so there! The cotton dress is gorgeous but I would break out in a sweat just thinking I'd have to iron it ... I'm loving both bags and the butterfly brooch. xxx
ReplyDelete@Radostin
ReplyDeleteI operate by the same philosophy my mother did-"Buy it large, you'll grow into it!" Sadly, that's true, though not obviously in the way she meant it.
@Vix
Aw, just wear some psychedelic printed ones-everyone will think it is a fashion statement.
@Bibi
I just can't appreciate eau d'Hadrien-it smells like cleaning solution.
Thank you for the compliments. I always feel a bit strange wearing white without a bit of tan, but obviously I need to stay out of the sun now.
@Sue
I think after this week we might be ready to ship summer back down to you!
@Veronica
Heliotrope is very sweet. Some people smell almond, but to me it is almost a floral syrup. If you've smelled L'Heure Bleue, Apres l' Ondee, or Bvlgari Omnia Amethyst you've smelled heliotrope.
Shhh, the dress only fits because I bought it too large (don't tell anyone). I liked it better looser.
@Ann
Strangely enough, the white dress never needs ironing if I hang it right from the wash, but the madras skirt wrinkles no matter how I launder it.
Being a granny sounds like great fun-you can send the kid home at the end of the day!
The short-sleeve jacket ensemble is crisp and chic, but the white dress is doing something special for you! You've never mentioned Stanislavsky, but what green garden thoughts were you entertaining when Danny took the snap? *wow*
ReplyDeleteMy goodness you're a knock-out in that white dress. I reckon you're a modern day Marilyn Monroe.
ReplyDelete....and don't get me started on that vintage Margaret Smith purse!! I'm off to the thrift shops now to look for my own!!
Enjoy the warm weather, and happy thrifting ;)
I never pictured heliotrope as purple, I always imagined it was yellow. It is a beautiful smell. Is it hardy in cold weather?
ReplyDelete@Mim
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting. I suppose yellow flowers do tend to smell sweet, and heliotrope is quite sweet.
It might survive winter in your climate, but it wouldn't make it here. I might try bringing it indoors as I've had great success with other flowers in our sunny window. I kept a lantana alive all winter, anyway.
