I do love a good statement sleeve. Unfortunately, it is still cold here, and my arms are shockingly pale-so I improvised arm warmers from a pair of old knee socks. Gotta do what you gotta do.
It might have made sense to add in another colour or two (green, yellow, red, etc) but today I was in a mood to keep things simple. The possibilities are certainly numerous with a dress like this. Spotted tights could have worked as well for a busy look.
Outfit Particulars:
90's Chetta B dress-Goodwill
Necklace-Goodwill
Earrings-Hobby Lobby
Vintage 80's boots-Goodwill
Bangle-Goodwill
Vintage Naturalizer handbag-Can't remember, probably Goodwill or New Life Thrift
I thought for sure with all this extra blousing on top it was an 80's dress. My mum loved this style as she was very tall, but had a round middle-all you'd notice were her endlessly long legs. Being short, it doesn't quite have the same effect, and to be honest, I could do with a bit less fabric on top. Still, the overall effect isn't bad, though it does seem to be trying a *bit* too hard at Fashion!
Note to self-get out the suede brush before taking photos.
I couldn't leave without mentioning the wonderful children's book, A Bad Case of Stripes
For my part, I'd rather have a bad case of the stripes than spots!
Somewhere in the world it is already Friday-have a great weekend.
P.S. Dig the heavy eyeliner flick.
Yay! Goody is back! Lookin' good too!
ReplyDeleteSorry I'm late to the reunion but my internet connection has been tenuous to non existent at best.
Living in the 3rd world for the last 13 yrs has taught me that the world has always been dangling away from disaster by the merest of threads so I'm somewhat unfazed by recent events. Being squeezed in between the Hindu fascist rhetoric, Chinese Maoist shtick, and Talibani threats Nepal seems doomed. BBC Radio is the only thing that keeps me sane.
Is that the same Chetta that still does cocktail dresses for Nordstrom? That dress is absolutely wonderfully wacky.
The heavy eyeliner flick looks FAB on you! Love your Betty Page bags & bob too!
Bibi beat me to this comment, two-cans-and-a-string communications network notwithstanding: The Betty bangs and bob is a terrific 'do for you! Also digging the heavy eyeliner and chandelier earrings. But most of all, I adore the improvised arm-warmers. Little Edie would approve!
ReplyDeleteChetta B sounds like the American cousin of failed British rapper, Honey G! The dress is fabulous, definitely with a nod at the 1980s. The hair and make-up is sublime. xxx
ReplyDeleteI really thought that was an 80s dress, and I'm sure I wore a dress along the same lines (or stripes!) in the 80s. I would never have come up with the sock arm warmers, though! That's so "Goody". xxx
ReplyDeleteWhat a fab idea - converting socks to arm warmers...
ReplyDeleteYou look very glamorous, Goody, in your stripes and long white boots. I love the earrings and necklace. The eyeliner is fab; I've never managed the flick and I can't be bothered with it now.
You have reminded me to post a picture of me in a striped jacket from the mid 1990s and taken then. My friend posted it on her face book page on my birthday, but if I remember rightly my jacket did have shoulder pads.
The handbag is gorgeous.
Have a great weekend.
You know I love spots and stripes, and the only way to wear stripes is with them going down just like you did. I noticed the eye liner flick and must say I am impressed, I am crap at things like that so I leave it to the pros like your good self!! Loving your hair!!
ReplyDelete@Bibi
ReplyDeleteYour part of the world has had some trials of late-here's hoping it settles down soon.
I always hesitate to do the eyeliner flick as it accentuates the fact I'm cross-eyed, but some days I get all militant about it and figure anyone that doesn't like it can stick it.
@Beth
I did think to myself that it was veering into little Edie territory, but it was COLD outside.
@Vix
Ha! I will think of failed rappers when I wear the dress-that's hilarious.
@Ann
I should mention that the same knee socks can be improvised into a headband as well.
@Veronica
I'd love to see that photo of you. You always look so stylish I'm sure you were making even the biggest shoulderpads look cool.
@Sue
What I REALLY like are stripes in a chevron pattern-now that's an optical illusion. You are the queen of spots-no one wears them as well as you.
I am glad you are back!
ReplyDelete@Violetlene
ReplyDeleteThank you, I'm glad to be back-I missed you too!
That is a fab outfit - I'd have guessed 80s too.
ReplyDeleteI'm learning to look beyond the decades and wear stuff I like. I think I'm too easily led when it comes to clothes. (At least people like you and Vix are good influences, and I'm not reading lots of horribly body-shaming fashion mags.)
@Mim
ReplyDeleteOh god-don't read the glossies!
There's a lot to be said for wearing what you like.
