Librarian Forced To Resign...

...for teaching literacy to immigrants.

Really, go read the article, and pass it around to as many sources as you can. This really shouldn't be something that goes quietly down the memory hole.

  2. UPDATE: after I shared this link on my Facebook, my librarian friend said, "I've added this to a library news blog that I subscribe to." So now it's being shared on a news site for professional librarians. I think it'd be great if this story grows and the NE librarian gets some pro bono legal aid, publicity and a new job!

  3. Thank you!

What I'd really like to see happen is have busloads of literacy volunteers head out there in a sort of Freedom Riders plan to teach English to Spanish speakers.

Even with budget cuts, my guess is larger libraries in the metro area would be delighted to hire her. I sure hope so.

    Thanks again.

  4. BTW, back in Chelsea, Kayem used to offer english lessons to it's immigrant employees. A polish immigrant started the company and his appreciation of being given a chance has come down the line even to the grandkids who now run the company. So even though people who work there only knew "Sam Beckett" as a lead character of an early '90s TV series, they had their admirable qualities.
