Anyway, RIP President Carter. We didn't just lose the former president, we lost the America he represented, and god knows we won't be getting it back soon, if ever. At the time, I remember being a little annoyed that he was so comfortable propping up dictators (Iran, half of Latin America, etc.) but that doesn't seem quite so awful with 50 years of hindsight.
Other observations from watching the state funeral:
President Ford's son had a major glow-up since he was a teenager.
Fritz Mondale's son looks exactly like his father (more grow-up than glow-up, but it was still nice to see him).
Amy Carter will always be eight years old to Americans old enough to remember.
Andrew Young made me cry.
Stu Eizenstat is still alive (!)
Mike Pence shook hands with Trump!!
Melania was dressed like the Witchfinder General
The Carters washed and reused ziplock bags (good anecdote)
So yes, a good man is gone. RIP.

Oh, how I love that little story that somebody taped to the back of the plate!
I am about 5 years younger than Amy Carter, so I remember next to nothing about her father's presidency other than the fact that Jimmy seemed like he was always smiling on TV. He sure seemed happier than Nixon, who looked mad all the time.
Carter is one of those presidents that I learned to appreciate only as I grew into adulthood and started gaining enough life experience and political knowledge to compare him to some of the presidents who came before, and the ones who came after. I developed a lot of respect for him, particularly as he got deeper into philanthropy in his golden years.

What a fascinating message with that plate!
Jimmy Carter's funeral was on all the TV channels yesterday, he was much loved here, too. I loved how the Bushes ignored the Orange One and seeing W give Obama a belly slap! xxx
i remember it was the cold war and and on our side of the iron curtain every US president was declared evil...... later i learned that they are humans too ;-D
sweet memory pinned to the plate and magically still on place at the charity shop.......

I loved that message at the back of that plate!
A good man has gone indeed ... xxx
Everyone seems to have talked about what a good man he was. It's a real loss.
Proud to have cast my first vote for president for him in 1980. A good man indeed and will be missed. It's going to be a sh*tshow for the next four years ( and longer if he fails to leaves after four, who knows)
