Fuck Yeah....Jumpsuits!
I feel like I should be asking if you'd like me to check the valves and clean your windscreen. Oh, for the kids-gas stations used to have attendants that would pump the fuel for you, clean the windows, and check your oil. When I was a small child, our neighbourhood station had a beatnik attendant working there named, Gus. Gus was a sweetheart, and all the kids adored him. One day as the school bus rounded the corner where the station was, everyone leaned out the windows to yell, "Hi Gus!" He loved that, and it became a regular cheer whenever he'd be outside pumping gas as we went by. Anyway, I look a little like Gus, but without the gigantic curly head of hair, and oil stains under my nails.On the farm we had a local tow-truck driver that would regularly come to our rescue in the spring when we'd get stuck in mud, or in the winter when the battery would just give up. He was a fan of jumpsuits too, as well as my baking. If you pull my car out of the mud, and show up quickly (he always did) there's home-baked biscuits or pastry for your trouble. I wonder if he misses us?
My husband went through a stage where he wanted to change his own motor oil. It ended when it became more of a hassle looking for a place to dispose of the oil, than just having it changed. Honestly, I was never comfortable seeing him under the car in the driveway. He never wore a jumpsuit for that, though he does own a heavy thermal jumpsuit to wear over clothing in winter. That doesn't get much use off the farm, but one snowy, frigid day he wore it to wait for the bus. He said it got some very strange looks on a city bus!

I gotta go work on the car now. See you later.
Yowza! You look stunning in a jumpsuit! Those earring are wonderful, I covet them!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy thrifting ;)
ReplyDeleteWe called them 'flying suits' in the 1980s and I really wanted one but couldn't afford to buy one.
You look amazing in yours - very cool - and the earrings are magnificent; as is that lovely tooled bag. The thing about the jumpsuits though is that they are a pain in the whatsit if you need a wee...
Looking forward to the next one.
Have a great week

You know... I can see them making a comeback !
ReplyDeleteI remember Lynda Carter being a huge fan of them back in the day.
Yeehaw! Cowgirl up with all that denim.
ReplyDeleteI still have a pair of Ben Davis coveralls I bought at thrift and wore with Doc Martens in the early 90's. Works a treat for gardening in modest attire in chilly weather. Yes, chilly is a rather balmy (by Midwestern standards) 68F here.
I love a good jumpsuit, although I must admit I don't own one. Looking forward to seeing more of your collection! xxx

ReplyDeleteThank you.
@Veronica
I hadn't heard the term flying suit-that will be helpful if I look for another on eBay. Thank you.
@Cee
If only I looked like Lynda Carter!
@Bibi
Strangely enough, it is warmer here at the moment in the 70's-but we have cold coming for the weekend.
@Ann
They're fun to wear (until you need a toilet).
You rock that jumpsuit.
ReplyDeleteI am sort of tempted by a Moogle (game character) onesie I saw on Etsy. It would be World of Wrong, but I also find something hilarious about a middle-aged woman in a Moogle onesie, even if that woman is me.
Fuck, yeah, jumpsuits!! Love that denim one on you and I'll fight you for that tooled leather bag.
ReplyDeleteWhile the rest of the world was obsessing about the US elections I went on eBay and snapped up a crazy floral beast of one for hardly anything (didn't help that it was modeled by a rather oddly shaped lady draped across a washing machine.)
Jon wouldn't mind you as his glamorous assistant in the workshop. xxx
I remember them with either a crewneck T-shirt or polo/turtleneck top underneath and sneakers or combat style boots to complete the ensemble.
ReplyDelete@Mim
ReplyDeleteIt is your right as a middle aged woman to wear whatever the hell you want (just ignore the clickbait articles declaring at what age you should stop wearing jeans, etc.).
@Vix
Jon already has the most glam assistant he could ask for!
@Cee
I still have a pair of combat boots-maybe I should dig them out and wear them.
