Double Your Pleather

Over-the-knee boots aren't typically my thing, but these are so trashy I made an exception. I'm not sure if there's a good way to wear them other than perhaps with leggings, but I went with an otherwise not-too-racy outfit to counter the impact of the "Fuck-Me" boots.

 The 80's silk blouse had very large shoulder pads, which I removed. The blouse buttons up the back with tiny buttons which is a bit of a pain, but I can do them up halfway and pull it over my head before buttoning the top. I don't know why buttons up the back keep coming back in fashion, but they're having another moment, so it was time to wear the blouse.

For those of you unfamiliar with the jingle for Doublemint Gum.

I was still feeling the bumblebee look the next day, so out came this circa 1983 linen jacket.
The collar stands up like a funnel when fully buttoned, and the shoulders have those distinctive wings I associate with clothes Michael Jackson wore in videos. The jacket can be worn buttoned so that it rests at the waist and blouses out on top. I never liked that look, so I've opted to wear it long. The jacket is large enough that I have the option of buttoning it un-bloused as well.
I don't purchase many 80's items unless they are terribly iconic. This jacket ended up in my cart because it is so well made. The lining is perfect, the buttonholes done correctly, the quality of the linen-it would have been mad to leave it for three bucks and change. Made by Capri New York, this would have been an expensive item of clothing at the time. I'm happy to have it, and wear it. I do love well-made clothing.

Finally, I'll leave you with the Pan de Muerto I made today. The recipe may be found HERE.
The entire house smells of oranges and aniseed. I can't think of a better way to usher in November.

Black , white and yellow is such a brilliant colour combination. I love it on you.

A cat brooch with a moving tail sounds simply amazing...

You look so good in yellow!
Some of the clothes made in the 1980s were wonderfully made, the last era before the rise of fast fashion and the Asian sweat shop.
Those buns look delicious. Our house stinks of curry - the closer we get to our next India trip the more we need Indian food. xxx

That's a gorgeous yellow jacket & I think it's an iconic 80's piece. I wore jackets like that in San Francisco with pointy toed boots & leggings with my Vidal Sassoon asymmetrical bob and probably copious amounts of Diane von Furstenberg's Tatiana perfume (to offset the deluge of my mom's Giorgio.)
I just wasted 25 minutes of my life watching a middle aged woman lament her unwitting purchase of a fake Louis Vuitton luggage tag (from an online consignment company called "The Real REAL") & her utterly humiliating experience when told by the Louis Vuitton dealer that they would not hot stamp her initials in gold on the aforementioned fake tag. Why did that warrant a video & why couldn't she say that in 10 minutes (or less?) These Louis Vuitton fans are really weird. Meh, the whole LV thing looks kinda cheesy to me- I'm sticking with my Tumis.
O, I bet that pan de muerto is yummy!

Thanks for including the Doublemint ad, shedding some light on your post title. Very clever! Those boots might be trashy, but I quite like them in all their shininess. I'm also loving the bumblebee blouse, though I'm hearing you on the buttons on the back. The cat brooch with the moving tail is intriguing me ... xxx

@Veronica
Than you. I realised I didn't get any good photos of the brooch-I will remedy that soon.

@Vix
Curry sounds good to me about now.

@Bibi
Yeah, I don't get the whole video thing-at all. I can't remember Tatiana-well, I remember it, just not what it smelled like. I see it around in the thrifts pretty frequently-is it worth picking up?

@Ann
I promise better photos of the cat!

Ahh, double pleather! Fabulous. And the fact that the back-buttoning blouse is silk makes it even better. The linen jacket looks very special - I quite agree with you on beautifully made garments.

@Radostin
Thank you. I do love a bit of quality.

Those boots are magnificent. Very saucy.

I only have one back-button top and I can put it on over my head. Can't imagine one that would have to be done up while on - presumbaly you'd do most of the buttons up, pull it on, then just dislocate a shoulder fastening the top one or two.

@Mim
I know, right?! I can barely zip a dress up the back without injury.
