Caftan Sunday Returns

What are you gawking at? Never seen a woman in a velour caftan on a 90 degree day? Go get me a cocktail. With ice.

This is not a summer caftan. Five minutes after taking the photos I raced inside to get out of the velour. I can see wearing it to entertain at Christmastime, but definitely not in July.

 Outfit Particulars:
Neiman Marcus caftan (80's I'd guess) Hand-Me-Ups
Jack Rogers vintage cork-heeled slides-Goodwill
Costume necklace-Hand-Me-Ups
Earrings-Target, some time ago
Gold bangle-can't remember
Ruby waterfall ring-Mum's

I cannot feel anything but glam in these slides. The previous owner put shoe savers on them-I would have too. They were pristine when I found them.

And in other news, I found the tooled handbag of my dreams at New Life Thrift.

 I don't know who AMT was, but she kept her purse in nice shape.
 I might have squealed with joy (a bit) when I spotted it in a display bin overflowing with old rucksacks and shoppers. As I always insist, whatever you desire (within reason) eventually turns up at the thrift store for a reasonable price. I found a similar bag on Etsy for $175. Madness.

 Outfit Particulars:
Vintage Carefree Fashions of Scottsdale AZ. skirt-Thrift World
Vintage Mexican hand-tooled leather purse-New Life Thrift
Bamboo bangles-Hand-Me-Ups
Shoes-K Mart
Blouse-K Mart
Hair Flowers-Tiff and Tam
Hand-woven belt-Goodwill
Fragrance-Chantilly (still as horrible as I remember it, but sometimes I need to remind myself)
Gigantic ring-Hobby Lobby

I'm off to host my Gilligan's Island Tiki Party. I made vegetarian sweet and sour meatballs, which I hope will go over well. I stopped at the party store for a table-top palm tree, and "coconut" glasses for punch. With any luck I'll be busy enough to escape actually watching the marathon viewing.

See you soon.

The caftan and slippers are exactly what I'd hoped you'd discover to wear with The Necklace. Serendipity!

I covet the tooled bag and shall continue my quest. Just as well we don't patrol the same Goodwill establishments!

Gilligan's Island was not my meat even back in the day. Tiki parties, however, secured my full participation! Have you ever seen an Hawaiian male do a real hula? With significant gestures? Amazing! Just the faded memory awakens both my surviving hormones.

Kaftan LOVE!
The Necklace looks divine with that kaftan too.
Never heard of Jack Rogers, but I'd put shoe savers on those cork heeled beauties too.
Best thing about metallic shoes is they go with ALL of my Indian ensembles- from saris to lehangas, churidars to kurtis.

Good luck with the party! Maybe no-one will notice if you sneak out to do other stuff during the marathon.

@Beth Waltz
Not *both* hormones! Quick, I'll get the smelling salts.

@Bibi
Oh how I wish you'd start a blog. I'll bet you have the most gorgeous clothes (and a gorgeous self to put in them).

@Mim
I tried to hide, but ended up catching some of the show. The commentary was rather sweet, but I guess it wouldn't be right to speak ill of all your now-dead cast mates. The party was a success, and the coconut pie didn't collapse (meringue topping).

A velour caftan is a definite Christmas wear, it is rather special. Love that new to you bag. I work on a similar theory when op shopping. I have always lusted after a Briarwood bag, a NZ design that is horrendously expeny. I found one in a bin of bags for only $4 and I may well have let out a small noise before purchasing it!!

@Sue
Isn't it the greatest finding a bargain? It does make me wonder about the people that get rid of these $$$ things.

I love the kaftan, but yes, better suited to winter given the fabric and long sleeves!
I agree, if you wait long enough and persevere, you'll hit thrift shop gold eventually. That tooled leather bag is a real beauty! xxx

What on earth possessed you to model velour in a heatwave, gorgeous dress though. . .
