Five Spice Chicken

Pretty impressive cooking for a vegetarian, eh?

Once in a while I treat Mr. Eat The Blog to a roast chicken. I had bookmarked this recipe last fall, and just got around to it tonight. I did not try any, but it was well received. I'm glad he liked it because it was a large chicken and he'll be eating it all week.

The recipe may be found HERE.

One note, it smoked up my kitchen a bit but at least it smelled good from the five spice powder.

mm.. i like the - what is that? - carrots and cabbage on the side. Looks like maybe cooked in butter, judging from the cabbage color. Anything else on them?

That was the stir-fry that Danny ate over rice as a meatless meal. Carrots, cabbage, leeks, ginger, garlic, basil, all tossed in a ziplock with cooking oil, a little sesame oil and some hoisan sauce. Grind up 3 star anise and toss that in. Then, hours later when you're ready for dinner, dump it in a pan and stir-fry. Super-easy.
