Dear Vintage Blogging Hive Mind...

...I need advice.

I have a 1957 white eyelet, Suzy Perette formal dress that has yellowed badly over time. The fabric is stiff, but in good condition. I could wear it yellowed, for a kind of look, but I'd really like to restore it to white. I don't however wish to ruin it.

Any thoughts? A good soaking in the tub with some Oxy booster might do it, but I'd be interested in hearing what all you vintage experts have to say.

Thank you in advance, because I know you guys will know what to do.

I am not a vintage expert by any means. I would also say to read up on this product before using it on vintage clothing. I like Iron Out for removing yellowing. For hard water stains this was the only product to keep our white clothes from the nasty yellow stains. I dunno if it will work for you. Good Luck!

I've seen iron out mentioned-that might be a good place to start. The yellow is just from age, and poor storage. I do wonder if a good long soak in plain water would help as a start.

I had no idea those dresses were so coveted. I did a search, and damn near fainted. At any rate, I wouldn't sell it (family heirloom, blah, blah, blah)but I would like to wear it.

Thanks for the tip.
