You know, at this point the only thing giving me hope is the interstellar object hurtling through space. Maybe Bowie is coming backš.
I will say that our polling place was busy, but everyone was pleasant and civil. I had to laugh when they asked Danny his name because they thought he was there to vote! He still has a few years for that.
We went out for ice cream after voting just as we did when he was small, before being misdiagnosed with nut allergies. Originally it was a way to get a toddler to behave waiting to vote, but it was nice to have our tradition back.
Anyway, are extraterrestrials dull?
Keeping my fingers crossed.

Danny looks so tall I'm not surprised he is mistaken for being over 18. Good to see the post-voting ice cream tradition restored.
I changed my state of residence to Florida & absentee voted in October. It's much easier to vote as an expat from Florida rather than California for whatever reason (and no personal income tax- yippeee!)
@Bibi
This isn't looking good so far.
I hope you're feeling a bit more positive.
American politics is so confusing to most of us Brits but the Democrats taking control of the House of Representatives is a good thing, isn't it? Does that mean that they can veto any Republican proposition and launch investigations into things like Trump's financial affairs? xxx
Well, the Dems have the House; that's something. (Though I seem to recall both Clinton and Obama losing the House midterm then getting re-elected, so I hope that's not a trend.)
Bowie coming back would be perfect. If he could bring Terry Pratchett with him I'd be happy.
did hear on the radio that there are some positive changes - but "he"´s still at power - but it seems the people woke up......
xxxx
I am afraid to turn the TV on now.
:(
@Vix
The way it ends up working is bills get killed before they ever reach the full floor for a vote, but there's still the senate to get things through and having republican control it would almost certainly die a swift death there. What upsets me, is even where there were wins, the races were very close, meaning there's still half the country that thinks everything is a-ok. I guess I was hoping people would have some sort of moral reckoning and do the right thing. Ah well, should have known better. This has gone way beyond political party.
@Mim
I think we are going to be living this horror for quite some time. It didn't start in 2016-we've been heading this way for decades.
@Beate
Maybe, but the elections were close, so we're still split as a nation. It certainly wasn't a statement.
@Bibi
It wasn't the sweeping victories we were hoping for.
Good on you getting out to vote. Too many people waste their vote by not voting.
We've had the news and whilst it's not brilliant it's certainly an improvement!
I can hardly get my head around Belgian politics, so this is all going a bit over my head. Nevertheless, I did expect a kind of reckoning too, it's really unbelievable that it was so close ... I wouldn't mind Bowie coming back, though. xxx
@Veronica
This day keeps getting stranger. They keep the chaos coming so fast we don't have a chance to react.
@Ann
At this point Bowie is all I have to hang hope on ;)
Democracy, Super Goody style !
The country stands divided still.
Dems got the house, reps got the senate = best we can hope for is a stalemate.
I agree with you Goody, the US has been headed this way for decades now. This is what I felt was going on when I lived in the US. Our educational system began purposefully failing in the Reagan 80's & we are paying for it now.
