I made friends with an inchworm that fell in my lap.
There were sandwiches...
...and naps...
...and someone who dislikes being disturbed...shhh, we'll just let her sleep...
Danny managed to run around the playground a bit, though he's still on the mend. Frequent breaks in the shade helped. That, and the healing properties of cucumber sandwiches.
Eventually, they made me get up. I still wasn't happy about it, but it was getting late.
So we shook the ants and inchworms out of the tablecloth, and hit the road. Tonight, we'll go to watch fireworks as we did last evening (yes, two nights, because one night of fireworks isn't enough for Americans) from the parking lot of the college next door. It is on a hill, with a panoramic view of the city, so we were able to see several shows at once last night. It is also a good place to set off gunpowder snaps, and be generally loud. When it is over, there's a two minute walk home. Beats being in a crowded field with a bunch of drunks that have been drinking all day in the July heat because, "Yay, America! Cheap beer and explosives." This is much, much, nicer.
Outfit Particulars:
Carefree Fashions of Scottsdale Arizona skirt-Thrift World
Corset-Cover top-can't remember, had it a while
Americana handbag-Hand Me Ups
Red shoes-thrifted about ten years ago, finally wore them first time today
Bangles, necklace, rings-thrifted all over
Earrings-K Mart
Hair Flowers-Tiff and TAm
Picnic Hamper-Hand-Me-Ups
Blanket/tablecloth-a few yards of waterproof fabric I bought in the remnant bin at Hancock fabric. Waterproof tablecloths have their place when your children are young, and when the fabric becomes too worn for the table, it can be used as a blanket for picnics. If you've never thought of doing this, I encourage you to seek out indoor/outdoor fabric. I can't begin to tell you how much use we've gotten out of this inexpensive remnant.
I'll leave you with a bit of holiday music. Happy 4th of July.

Mr ETB in photos!! Family picnics are fun, and that looked pretty good. You flip the bird lying down so well.
@Sue
He's a bit camera-shy, so I had to sneak this photo.
