Expensive Copies

The original...

The jewels of Wallis Simpson went on the auction block this week. I was amused to see the original (number three in the slideshow at the link) of a brooch I've had for close to thirty years. At the time, I paid a couple hundred dollars for it, which was probably the most expensive purchase I'd made at that point. That probably says something about the sort of teenager I was-everyone else was purchasing expensive stereo equipment-I was buying expensive copies of the Duchess of Windsor's jewels.
My (not really by today's dollars) expensive copy...

This does have me thinking I ought to display some of my more elaborate brooches in some sort of shadow-box. I rarely wear them, but I still enjoy looking at them.
