Poached Plums With Spices

They tasted as good as they look. I wish you could smell these. Be sure to keep any extra syrup for mixing with seltzer water, or even drizzling over French toast. I served mine with vanilla ice cream, but whipped cream, or sour cream would be lovely as well.

You Will Need:

2 ripe plums
1 cup water
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cinnamon stick
5 whole cloves
a few thin slices of stem ginger (or to taste)

In a small pan, dissolve the sugar and water over high heat, whisking. Reduce heat to simmer, add the spices and cut plums. Poach until soft-about twenty minutes. Remove fruit with a slotted spoon. Strain out cinnamon stick and cloves. Pick out ginger pieces. At this point, the skins should peel right off the fruit (or leave it on if you prefer). Return the syrup to the pan and boil until reduced by 1/4. Pour over fruit in a heatproof dish. Serve warm with something creamy.
